Just a Little Pig’s Foot

Since I’m creating guitar TAB for fiddle tunes, I thought that I’d begin with one of my favorite tunes,

HUH??? Poor little piggy-squeal , squeal, squeal….Naaaahhhh….it doesn’t mean that for real. From my research, the most common explanation for this title is that the chunks of wood sticking out of a campfire are called pig’s foot, so you shove them back in to keep the fire going. So now all of you animal lovers out there can play this tune without fear!

Here is a PDF of the tune, with regular notation, chords AND guitar tabs. It’s a pretty straightforward way to play it on the guitar.

So pull out your guitar, or fiddle, or mandolin, or banjo, and enjoy the tune – it only takes a few minutes to learn! You can even play along with this video! And, you can go to the Fiddle Tunes tab at the top of this page, where you’ll find a practice video for Shove That Pig’s Foot a Little Further in the Fire.:)
